Federer has won 16 Grand Slams, more than any other player in history, and is in scintillating form, breezing through the draw without dropping a set. In fact, the Swiss world no.3 admitted earlier in the tournament that for the first time in Paris, the pressure has been lifted from his shoulders. "I think there's less at stake for me than for (Djokovic)," Federer says. "He's got a lot of things going on for him. Sure, I'd love to be in the Grand Slam final because I haven't achieved that in a few Slams."
It is clear however that all eyes are on Djokovic and whether he can continue his astonishing feat. Federer for one is hugely impressed by the Serb's run. "He's done really, really well," he says. "And he's keeping it up. He's not making a big fuss about it, which is a good thing for him. Obviously a big question remains: how long can you keep it up? I said it a couple of weeks ago - it's just hard day in, day out to be asked the questions."
Despite all the hype surrounding Djokovic, the 24-year-old's feet remain firmly on the ground and, both mentally and physically, he appears to be in the zone. So how did he get to this position? "It requires definitely working out and spending a lot of time working on the court, thinking about the sport, thinking about the best possible way to approach the sport. Trying to have the emotional stability every day, because tennis has the longest season in all sports. I think it came as well over the years, because I have been really playing on the top level for last four years. And I have a lot of experience now, even though I'm still young. But I have a lot of experience, and I have been trying to learn every single day of my career. Now it's coming together."
The spectacular match-up between the world no.2 and 3 even has five-time Roland Garros champion Nadal excited. "Among Djokovic and Federer, I believe it's the best player (at this) time against the best player of history. It's going to be a beautiful match. I would watch it if I was a spectator," he says. "I think both of them have chances to be in the final. Djokovic is playing fantastic, Roger did very well during this tournament. Roger has enough potential to beat anybody, and you know how good can be Roger in the final rounds of a Grand Slam."
Nadal's semi-final opponent Andy Murray, who has faced Djokovic and Federer on multiple occasions over the years, agrees. "It's going to be a great match. I'm sure it will be interesting to see how they both play. I'm sure for Novak it will be a little bit strange - five days off in the middle of a Grand Slam is rare. He definitely wouldn't have been through it before." The Scot adds that Djokovic will have to be switched on from the start "because he's playing Roger. It will be very interesting, and I think if the conditions are like they have been the last few days, it's going to be pretty unpredictable."
Just one match stands between Djokovic and his ascension to the summit of world tennis. Nadal already regards Nole as the man of the moment, and if he defeats Federer on Friday, the rankings will confirm it.
